Pima Air & Space Museum

Over the past week, Karly and I have been enjoying our week long vacation to Arizona. We have been spending our time in Tucson and Phoenix as well as Sedona. During our time in Tucson we took the opportunity to see the Pima Air & Space Museum, which was a wonderful experience. I highly recommend this museum to anyone that will be in the area. We do, however, recommend breaking it up into a couple of days if you have the time.

Pima Air & Space Museum is located on the south east side of Tucson, south of Davis-Monthan Air Force Base. The grounds consist of 5 hangers of various aircraft and exhibits, including a wonderfully done section on women in aviation and one dedicated to seaplanes. One hanger is completely dedicated to a fully restored B-17G and features exhibits related to B-17 missions, deployments, and crews. Additionally, there is a building for the space portion that we did not have time to visit, and a cafeteria with some pretty good food. Lastly, the museum is surrounded by a “boneyard” of various airplanes, helicopters, and other vehicles that you can walk around. Should you choose to walk the whole thing, we were told it was about 4 miles of walking, with the only shade being offered by the taller aircrafts’ wings.

The museum, in my opinion, is one of the best curated and organized aviation museums in the nation. We will definitely be returning when we have the chance and I hope that you too will enjoy the experience as much as we did. To give you a small taste of what the museum has to offer, please enjoy a selection of the hundred or so pictures I took.

I hope this encourages you to go check out the museum and to see the Tucson area in general. We are having a great time and will have more vacation stories soon. Until next time!
