Let Us Introduce Ourselves…

The inspiration for starting this blog is incredibly simple. Don and I love to travel and after getting asked many times about our adventures, it seemed logical to record them in one place. Our first travel love is camping. We have been car camping since 2012, which I was incredibly reluctant to even do in the first place. Thankfully, Don persisted and was able to change my viewpoint on the whole experience. This year (2018), we are taking this love to a whole new level. We were married in September 2017, and after much discussion, we decide to invest a lot of our wedding money into backpacking equipment. Neither one of us have backpacked before, so this blog will contain our excitement, successes, and failures as we venture on the trail.

Not only does travel extend to our hobbies, but it is linked with Don’s career. As an airline pilot, he spends a good portion of each month away from home. Even though I’ve had to adjust to his unpredictable schedule and spending much time alone, this has given us an added perk: flight benefits. So far, we have used them to travel to Texas and Florida, but this year Arizona and Montana will be added to this list.

Together, we are a team of writing and photography loving nerds. We support each other on the trail, off the trail, and when we are thousands of miles apart. Our goal and wish is that you enjoy this blog, as we are documenting memories that we could only make together.

Karly

Karly is an avid reader, writer, and nature lover. She has an M.A. and B.A. in English, which has come with a love of obscure poetry and drama. When on her own, she enjoys reading, knitting, playing Stardew Valley, and hanging out with the furbaby, TaraCat. She loves all animals and loves to activate her “deer powers” when out on the trail. She enjoys hiking solo, but is much happier when Don can join her.

Don

Don works as an Airline Pilot, who spends a lot of time away from home, which isn’t so bad since travel is a huge passion of his. In addition to camping, flying, and hiking with Karly, Don also has a huge interest in photography. As part of his kit that goes on every trip, Don modified an old lunch box into a camera bag that works with his luggage and takes his camera everywhere he goes. When not working, Don enjoys playing video games on the PS4, reading, watching cartoons and anime, and spoiling his wife as much as she’ll let him.
